Moans and Melts into Puddle

Oh, how I loved the end line "Slinks off shamefacedly," because I ducked my head low, waiting for the barrage after "Oh, where do I begin," JG. Great post. You made me laugh as you slammed out of your usual laconic self.
Em. he's right about Blood Diamond. I could not sit through that one again. I felt shame and disgust over being a part of it also-- It's a gruesome experience, and my "Wow" was in admiration for those who dared make such a film--because I have no doubt it's true--without giving in to fear for their lives.
And Harry Potter? (She moans and melts into a puddle of disdain here.) But, hey, I want you to soften out there toward Keith U., in case I do change my mind. I just can't believe the lack of empathy for someone--such as moi--who is destined to sleep alone for the next thirty years, unless I get lucky and fall in front of a train. I want a chorus of pity and sighs for empty beds, followed by admiration ooooohs and ahhhhs for my discipline and strength. What a day. What a day.

Well, Virgin Girl friend, I am crying in my beer here. I'd rather be you and not know what I'm missing, though it was really the late nights curled up in each other's arms that melted me like butter. I thought that was love. It's only a small part, but it's the part I miss the most. How strange.
OK, Meg dragged me kicking and screaming to Harry P. Great sets and photography, but Harry is a vacant sort of whimp who got on my nerves. No dialog except for "How do we get to London? La te da," though I was a sucker for the last line. Really, the only character I could relate to was Luna.I loved her, lived her once, and lived with her.
Geez, I'm in a rotten mood today, hanging onto your blogging with both hands to avoid entering grades and sorry I'm spitting out my irritation into the air waves. Em. you still have Bjork ahead of you. And now I'm slinking off also.

Okay, these are my last words before I run off to vacate with my family. I agree. Harry Potter was a little bit too Frodo Baggins for me. Frodo Baggins is endearing because he is a hobbit, but H.P. is a different kind of hero. You have to admit the snake eyes part was fantastic, though. Sheerly. And I love the bit where he approaches Sirius and asks if he is a good person. Very fine, that part. I want to raise my kids with the kind of media influence that faces heavy stuff like that.

And you're right about Luna. I loved that shot of her hexing the Death Eater with blood coming out of her mouth. And JW and I have already discussed the power behind Warwick Davis' fist-into-air-punching.

See you soon, I'm going to bed. JG if you're reading this, I know you reading the sixth book is probably partly morbid curiosity and that the story really doesn't do much for you, but when you get to the part where Dumbledore has to drink his way to the locket.........it's not fun and games anymore. I'd be interested to hear your reaction.

BT, Stop wasting your virginity and turn it into CASH! Certain tribes will pay top dollar for your abstinence. If you don't mind being a little bit sacrificed, there are a lot of opportunities out there for you.

Sharon: I am not above giving Keith Urban a chance. I had just never seen the plaid-festooned chappy. I was curious who it was. That is all. I am not so much of a genre warrior to say "all country or rap is bad." not at all true. No rockism here. Also, I am glad you reminded me about final grades. I guess I should print up all the final papers and read them...I hate this.

Gilly--I also highly appreciated Sirius' message in 5. To me, it echoes Christ's admonition to be ye therefore perfect (which in the original greek, more closely approximated the idea of being integral, complete: recognizing your faults and virtues as constituting who you are). I really thought the message was excellent, a fist in the face of dichotomous thinking. Sometimes, members of the church that I attend want to lead others to believe that they are either sinners or saints, no in-between, no composite. I thought this was the high point of the movie. The final lines to Voldomort were excellent too. I quite enjoy the philosophical undertones of the series. And I will report when I get to the part you mentioned.

I know that I am a little behind on all of this, but Joe, you watch Gilmore Girls???? If someone would have told me to make a list of people who perhaps may stumble across Gilmore Girls and watch it because nothing else is on, you would not have been on that list. I am a Gilmore Girls addict (I know you are shocked about that). The story line is addictive and I will say that Aaron watches it too, so you don't have to feel like you are the only husband who got pulled into watching it and then started to enjoy it.

Sharon, I really like Keith Urban too and I LOVE John Cusack. In fact, an old beau of mine almost bought me a bumper sticker with a silhoutte of John Cusack holding his boombox in Say Anything and it read "Cusack for President." I always wished that he had bought that for me, I would have felt a lot better about the relationship. However, and I know that Emily will back me up on this one, my favorite heart throb (it's not really lust in my case, I'm married and that would be weird, I think) is Jim Halpert from The Office. One word...adorable. Em, needs to find herself a Jim Halpert. In fact, although I have never met you Charity, maybe you can make that happen for her!
I'm off to see HP this afternoon. Hopefully I will like it. I will tell you something though...Em, I really don't like Snape. He gives me the creeps. And if Dumbledore doesn't come back to help Harry, I am going to be very upset. Oh and just for the record, Hermione is my favorite.

parkinfamily (there's got to be a nickname, right), I am sniffin' out the trails for our little BT, don't you worry. The problem is, I have a very high opinion of that girl and I expect her prospects to be at least visible from her pedestal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for AZ bachelors. I don't know how she's managed to fend them off this long. She's just so darn oblivious to her charm the boys probably read her (pardon the word) naivety as snobbery. I love you Emily, but you really are too cool for me, I'm just glad you don't know it.

One more thing--Johnny Depp. He's got all those others beat, with the exception of Jaren, of course. What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Edward Scissor Hands, Benny & Joon, Chocolat, aw heck, he's yummy in all his roles--even Fear and Loathing and Corpse Bride.

Gilbert Grape is when I truly fell head-over-heels for both Depp AND Juliette Lewis. And DiCaprio is amazing. Did you know they found the mom on something like Ricki Lake and she basically played out her own life on the movie? What an amazing cast and story. I watch this movie whenever I need a catharsis. And I bow to John C Reilly, always.
